Looking to start your own project pan, but need some inspiration?

Consider your search over.

Read on for 10 imaginative project pan ideas for 2021.

1. 21 in 2021

A self-explanatory timed panning challenge, where you race against the calendar to pan 21 items in 2021. To help you stay motivated, try keeping a log of your progress. Take pictures and notes. Post your achievements on social media or an online panning community.

Wondering how 21 in 2021 will look for you? Check out this inspiring project pan example from A Woman’s Confidence, a fellow beauty and lifestyle blogger based in the UK.

2. Snowball Challenge

A great accompaniment to 21 in 2021 and other timed panning challenges.

Based on a popular debt-reduction strategy, the Snowball Challenge involves starting with small products and gradually working your way up to larger ones. Panning makeup is a lengthy undertaking; this project pan idea helps you gather and maintain momentum.

  • Small items. Products you’ll finish within 3 to 6 months. Skincare, lip gloss, and mascara.

  • Medium items. Products that take 6 to 12 months to pan. Foundations (all types), cream products, and small pressed powders like eyeshadow.

  • Large items. Products that take a year or more to pan. Pressed powders, loose powders, and perfumes.

3. Bingo Challenge

This one’s ideal for palettes – can you pan multiple shades in a row in your eyeshadow, blush, contour, or highlighter palettes?

4. 13 by Halloween

Another timed panning challenge, this time with a smaller number. For extra intensity, try panning all 13 items in October.

5. The 12 Pans of Christmas

Does the holiday period provide too much shopping temptation? Try resisting by doubling down on a Christmas panning challenge.

Like the Halloween challenge, start and complete this one in December.

6. Historical Periods

Craving some escapism? Try creating looks and panning items related to your favorite historical epoch. Here’s a few fantasies:

  • Titanic Gibson Girl. You’re a first-class passenger and mistress of a wealthy French textile merchant, preparing for an extravagant Edwardian dinner. A flawless, powdered complexion is a must, as are full brows, heavily flushed cheeks, and just-bitten lips.

  • Disco Queen. It’s 1979 and you, an avant-garde interior designer, have been invited to an exclusive party at Studio 54. Time to whip out the technicolor eyeshadows, Twiggy-inspired lashes, and nude lipsticks.

  • The Most Interesting Woman in the World. It’s 1954, the post-war economy is booming, and you’re an enigmatic, unwed socialite who makes frequent visits to Mediterranean islands. Enchant your numerous suitors with coral lips and a kiss of matching coral blush.

7. Around the World

Scratch your itch to travel with this themed challenge. Use your favorite international destinations as panning inspiration.

8. Snow White and the Seven Pans

I stole this idea from a Reddit thread; with you as Snow White, assign the seven dwarves’ characteristics to seven products.

For example, a brown lipstick could be called “Grumpy”, while a peach cream blush could be called “Bashful”. Be creative and try to create cohesive looks with the seven products.

9. Going Steady

A project pan challenge for the most disciplined of panners.

Use the same products every day for 6 months or more. Think uniform, but for makeup.

10. Panning Roulette

Sometimes you have so many products that you can’t decide what to focus on. Avoid choice paralysis with a panning roulette, where you group products by category, close your eyes, and choose one of each at random for your face-of-the-day.
